The MS Maasdam, the first vessel of the 2014 season in Saguenay, a record year for the Port of Call!

Saguenay, May 14, 2014 – Saguenay inaugurates its 9th season of international cruises with the arrival of the Netherlands’ vessel, the MS Maasdam, property of the company Holland America Line (HAL).  It will stopover in Saguenay this Wednesday, May 14th, from10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and with its arrival, will begin the busiest season since 2006.

The arrival of this first vessel, will also be the occasion to highlight the prestigious “Best Port Welcome” award from Cruise Insight Magazine this past March for the 3rd consecutive time.  The Mayor of Saguenay, Mr. Jean Tremblay, takes this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed and helped Saguenay to receive this great honor.  “The Best Port Welcome Award worldwide, is without a doubt the most important award thatSaguenay has ever received; it’s the result of hard work from hundreds of dedicated and passionate individuals who are very proud of their region!”

2014, a record year!

In total, 33 vessels will visit us in 2014 and will make for an unprecedented year.  The season will begin with the arrival of the MS Maasdam this spring and three following vessels this summer; two in mid-July and another at the end of August.  The high season for international cruises is confirmed to begin September 4th.

On five occasions, we will welcome two vessels simultaneously. The season ends on November 9th, a later date than previous years that have always closed at the end of October. 

Six vessels will visit Saguenay for the first time:  the Pearl Mist, the Seabourn Quest, the Hamburg, the Legend of the Seas, the Ruby Princess and the luxury craft, the Regatta.

In total, Saguenaywill welcome over 51,000 visitors this year, being over 34,600 passengers and 16,400 crew members.

A more attractive port town!

The construction activities of the port village are coming to an end and new merchants are opening their doors.  Come have a look and pick up a little something for yourself!  The Place du Marché will also be open from10 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Despite the late arrival of spring this year, all services and attractions are open.
