International cruise season ends with very positive results

Saguenay, October 26, 2017— The Crown Princess will have the honour to close the 2017 international cruise season in Saguenay this Friday, October 27, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Its 3,114 passengers and 1,163 crew members will pull the curtain on an exceptional season for the port of call!

The whole population is invited to welcome this last ship. Moreover, from 2:30 p.m., there will be entertainment for the whole family. A nice way to start the weekend!

A record-breaking season

For the first time in its history, the Saguenay port of call experienced the largest concentration of ships and visitors. Indeed, from September 29 to October 12, 19 ships were welcomed in 12 days. This represents 23,118 passengers and crew members. The highlight was on October 6 with 6,000 passengers in the same day. Records were also set for the average number of stopover hours for 2017: 15:25 pm hours compared to 8.5 hours in 2016.

In addition, as of October 18, more than 4,000 tickets were sold for land shuttles offering sightseeing tours in the boroughs of the city, and more than 5,381 visitors attended the English version of La Fabuleuse.

Overall, 55 ships stopped over in Saguenay during the 2017 season and we welcomed 65,395 passengers and crew members. For 2018, 60 ships are confirmed. The Queen Mary 2 will come back once more and for the first time, the Disney Magic Disney Cruise Line will stop over twice.

The reputation of the destination acquired over the years as well as the exceptional weather experienced this fall undoubtedly contributed to this success.

Warm welcome from Saguenay

We were aboard the Queen Mary 2 and had a few hours in Saguenay (Oct 1) en route to New York City.

The welcome your city gave us was so warm and lovely … we were completely surprised! This is the first time we have travelled to this part of Canada and we loved everything we saw and experienced.

Quebec is truly “La Belle Province”.

Dear Saguenay Tourism Folks,

I just wanted to share with you the review I sent to TripAdvisor following our visit to your lovely, hospitable city when our Viking ship stopped there on 9/21/17. We were so positively impressed with the warmth of your people and with the WONDERFUL stage show to which you treated us. Thanks so much making our visit there a real highlight of our cruise. You have a proud heritage, and we appreciated the opportunity to relive it such an entertaining, exciting way. And delivering it in English was so considerate. You deserve an Academy Award.

Sincerely, Jay Brown, Raleigh, NC USA

A highlight of our trip

Our cruise ship docked in Saguenay on 9/21/17. We received the most vigorous, sincere, heartwarming welcome at the pier from a host of singing and dancing townspeople. After enjoying a tour of the city, we were entertained at The Fabuleuse Stage Show. It was a FANTASTIC, entertaining presentation of the history and growth of the original settlement. The cast members were all volunteers who effectively portrayed the residents through the years. We were continually amazed by the effective use of technology, animals, animation and exciting surprises throughout. The people are genuinely hospitable and their presentation displayed their immense pride in their heritage. This is a DON’T MISS show, and was a wonderful stop on our cruise.

We were not sure who to write to but we wanted to say what a fantastic welcome when we recently arrived on Queen Mary2.

If possible could you convey our appreciation to those concerned.

The period costumes on the quayside, music, dancing so much to see from the ship. The ladies giving out excellent blueberry pie it was all very unexpected.

There was so much activity during the day with the circus performers, the concert, the marquee with stalls of local produce so interesting.

So many people to wave us off. It was a talking point all evening about the very warm welcome we received.

Thank you Saguenay for a truly memorable day.
