The rich history of the Innu Community just as that of the population of Sept-Îles, is unveiled to you in all of its splendour... in the middle of a landscape that will take your breath away.

  • Rail and river
    Rail and river

    Offer yourself a train ride and discover the majestic Moisie River; a salmon river of international renown. You will be won over by the panorama and the unforgettable scenery; nature in its purest state! Furthermore, this journey will allow you to observe certain customs of the Innu Community.

  • Musée Shaputuan

    Musée Shaputuan

    In the warm and typically welcoming atmosphere of the Innu, the staff enthusiastically share their knowledge of traditional culture. The exhibit, presented in the symbolic shape of a circle, presents Innu life through the seasons. The Ancients' heritage is brought to life through words, song and dance.

  • Vieux poste de Sept-Îles

    Vieux poste de Sept-Îles

    The history of this trading post begins around 1676 under the direction of a French commercial society of which famous explorer Louis Jolliet was a member. The site's buildings were rebuilt in 1967. The general store, observation tower, chapel, home and the grounds offer a varied interpretive program, shows, exhibits, archaeology, history and Innu culture.

  • Musée régional de la Côte-Nord
    Directions from the port
    Musée régional de la Côte-Nord This permanent exhibit invites you to discover 8000 years of North Shore history. All of the presentations provide a glimpse into the courage, tenacity and pride of the local inhabitants. The Boutique Ô Muses: Works of art and original artisanal creations.

  • Archipel des Sept-Îles
    Archipel des Sept-Îles The traditional Virée des îles is enhanced by an interpretation of the region's history, economy, culture and social life. Observe whales and other marine mammals, as well as the Île du Corossol along the bird sanctuary. Biology excursion focusing on crustaceans and molluscs. Morning and evening cruises, diving, snorkelling, scuba diving, kayak rentals. Three-hour guided excursion / Three daily

  • La Grande Basque Island
    La Grande Basque Island Recreational and tourism centre offering 11 km of walking trails, six beautiful beaches. Interpretation activities, marine trough, guided tours, discovery rally, thematic activities (mycology, ornithology, geology).

  • Rivière aux Rochers, Salmon Interpretation Centre

    Rivière aux Rochers, Salmon Interpretation Centre

    Located in the heart of the town of Port-Cartier, la Rivière aux Rochers is one of the outstanding attractions the municipality has to offer. A base for salmon fishermen, the pavilion is also an interpretation centre for human interventions that helped the salmon run to multiply. This salmon interpretation centre will reveal all of the secrets of the "king of the river" by offering numerous activities: guided tours, observation of salmon swimming upstream, and sports fishermen in action, as well as thematic exhibitions on salmon.

    Two shopping centres in the downtown area. In addition, local boutiques are no more than five minutes from port.

    Directions from the port

    The regional airport is located 15 km from port and offers direct flights to Montréal and Québec. Three carriers also offer helicopter excursions.
